These are the steps that are commonly referred to as the "second temple" which is the temple Jesus visited in His day. The steps leading up to the entrance of the temple were uneven; meaning some were lower and some were higher. This was done intentionally to remind people that they should not rush into the presence of God. Rather, one should take his time to get there, going from one step to another carefully and slowly. Progressing from precept to precept, until one is finally ready to enter into the presence of the Lord. No wonder we learn so much and have to build up so much before, in the temple, we are able to enter into the presence of the Lord. (excerpt from Joey's journal)
